IGPs Visit to the Oti Region.

The Police and other security agencies in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region have assured residents of maximum protection before, during, and after the district Assembly and Unity Committee elections.

In recent times, the Oti region has witnessed tribal clashes between three tribal groups in the Nkwanta South municipality leading to the death of some innocent souls.

At least thirteen people have been shot dead whilst five others injured in recent clashes.

In view of the disturbances, the Nkwanta South Municipality has been under a curfew for the past three weeks due to the ethnic conflict.

To ensure residents go about their work and cast their district assembly and unit committee members vote today for development, the police and other security agencies have promised to protect lives and properties ahead of the elections, the Nkwanta South Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Michael Kwabena Asiedu told the media.

According to him, they will deploy both police and military to various polling stations to ensure that voters are safe and protected.

He added that, due to the tension between the feuding factions within Nkwanta township, the security agencies are on red alert.

Chief Supt. Asiedu urged voters to come out in their numbers and participate in the very important Assembly and Unit Committee elections.
